The Uni-Shrimp

The Uni-Shrimp

At home in fresh or salt water, the universal shrimp equally appeals to trout or bream. Use where there are weedbeds in estuaries or rivers. (This pattern is a variation of the original tied by Club member and Tiewell proprietor Allan Barber). Apologies to him.

The materials used in its construction are chosen to promote translucency. Reflective hook, mono thread, clear "plastic elastic" and translucent pale green dubbing. (Our black and white scanned photocopy doesn’t look too translucent, but the real McCoy does ........believe me! Note that the pattern is tied reverse. Fish in small strips.

Tying Notes
1 - Tie in the antenna and mono eyes with the black hair on top. (The black hair shows through the dubbing near the tail to simulate the vein). Extend the eyes beyond the bend and extend the antenna materials beyond the hook eye to be cut to length when the tail is cut.
2 - Opposite the barb, (if using bead chain eyes, tie Secure the plastic elastic in now). form a dubbing loop and return the tying thread to hook eye.
3 - Sparsely dub back to the hook eye forming a tapered body. Now for the tricky bit ....
4 - Pull the plastic elastic back over the body and whilst keeping it under tension secure it at the hook eye.
5 - Using the tying thread, rib back to the bend forming the plates and tie off at one plate back from the eyes. Trim the nose to a V and trim the tail to length and round off. Cement all bindings & bead chain eyes with super glue. Dot top of each plate with a black marking pen.
