On The Fly with David Wilson

Our Club members participate in all areas of fly tying. Some specialise in bass bugs and others in blue water. We have a trout tying contingents who specialise in flies from size 18 Midges to size 6 Fuzzy Wuzzies.

We have regular Club tying nights, where we share techniques and ideas. There is always a member or two swapping the latest secret pattern or material. Club members have developed some of their own patterns and are working on others.

Salt water tiers have developed patterns as diverse as Fish Head & Entrails, developed by Gordon Dunlop in collaboration with Peter Morse. Chris Wright, holder of a number of ANSA records, swears by it. He finds that the Fish Head fly works well after pelagics have slashed into a school of bait fish. Alex Sums shrimp is another innovative successful pattern. Nick Constantinou sparkle nymph not only looks like Christmas it is Christmas!
