A meeting of the Rod Building Group was held on Sunday 17th Jan Centennial Park. Twenty members attended and we had a good time.

The meeting focused on the steps required to build a rod, the materi- als and tools needed. What was interesting was the level of knowledge and diversity of opinion within the group. And I must say the opinions were expressed with vigor. We had a display of the materials and tools and blanks required so that we could become familiar with what we were about to undertake.

During the meeting members reg- istered the details of the rod blanks they are interested in pur- chasing and that list will be for- warded to different suppliers to see what sort of deals we would be able to get by a little bulk buying.

There was discussion and demon- stration about the technical aspect of Fly Rods and how to use that information in the building of the rod itself. Things like the spine of a blank and the impact of placement of the runners on the performance and nature of the rod under con- struction.

As a group we are collecting a lot of interesting material about how rods are made and how they work. This information is valuable to all Fly Casters and will help many of us improve our casting and fishing experences. Copies of that infor- mation is available on request.

It was agreed that future meetings of the group would be on Monday evenings on the 4th or 5th Monday of the month and they would be held at the Community Center Drummoyne.
