Knots

There are a number of knots that are commonly used in fly fishing

  • The Penny Knot is used to attach a hook to a line
  • The Non-Slip Loop Knot is used to attach a hook to a line when you want hook movement
  • The Nail Knot is used for joining lines such as in making a leader or replacing the tippet on a leader.  This is best done using a commercially available nail knot tool.
  • The Surgeon's Knot is used as an alternative to the Nail Knot to make a leader or replace the tippet on a leader and also as a method of attaching a dropper to a leader.
  • The Uni Knot is another knot used to attach a tippet to a leader

*Remember to lubricate all knots before tightening and to wear gloves when securing knots in 20lb and above strengths.

Note: The Club is not responsible for the loss of any fish due to the failure of a recommended knot whilst you are fishing.
