Why Join The Club

Members Benefits

The The benefits of Joining Sydney Fly Rodders' Club are numerous:

Monthly newsletter

We produce a monthly 8 page newsletter that contains articles by our members, along with salt and freshwater fishing reports plus items of tackle for sale, that is posted to all members.

Monthly meeting

We have a monthly meeting at a central Sydney location where we discuss club business, hold raffles, have fly tying nights and more often than not have a guest speaker. Food and drink are available from 6pm. Please support this initiative, as we want this service to be available before each meeting.

Streamcraft weekends

Streamcraft weekends are also organised so that members can have practical experience on Lake and Stream, with experienced members running them.

Casting days

Casting days are held a couple of days a year using some of the excellent casters we have in the club as instructors. All members are welcome to attend and most pick-up a few pointers to improve their casting technique. These days are especially helpful to beginners and can provide a real short-cut to better casting. A BBQ lunch is usually provided and of course, it is all FREE to members.

Monthly trout outings

The Club has monthly Trout fishing trips to Oberon. We also have a very full and varied Calendar covering both salt & freshwater outings so there's something going on every month of the year. All members are encouraged to attend these trips and to help with the organisation, most trips are booked up as a good time is had by all.

Beginners weekends

An annual event on our Calender is a "Beginners' Weekend" this has become a popular feature of our year. Last year a small group of experienced members hosted a weekend at Narrabeen Lakes for 20 novices aged from 19 to 70! They covered all the basics of fly fishing including tackle, knots, casting, fly tying and basic streamcraft. It was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. A weekend like this can cut years off the beginning phase and fast-track new members towards being successful fly fishermen.

We also have fishing weekends away for beginners where they will be accompanied by a more experienced member, who will teach them on stream (or lake) a lot more of the fundamentals of streamcraft than can be covered in a classroom.

Regular events

We also have fishing weekends away at various places, covering both salt & freshwater. All members are welcome to attend and these are normally booked out well in advance as a good time is had by all.
