Lake St Clair in October
I kept on pinching myself to make sure I wasn’t
asleep, and thanks to the powers that be, I was wide
awake. But more importantly, I really had landed a 60 cm
bass from the shore of Lake St Clair near Singleton.

Peter Kelly and I had decided to have a quick fish at
Lake St Clair on the Friday afternoon on our way up to
the Carp Bash at Lake Liddell hosted by the Singleton
Fly Fishing Club. We got to the picnic grounds with
about an hour of daylight left. It had been a stinking
hot day so it was a relief to be near the water. There
was lots of blue green algae in the bay near the boat
ramp but the water was a lot clearer on a little spit
about 500 metres walk away. And that’s where I caught
this bass on a purple and black vampire. Peter and I
also got a smaller bass each that afternoon.
Special thanks must go to the Singleton Club. Over
the years they have put almost a million bass into Lake
St Claire for the benefit of all and on this special
evening, they did make my day.
